Window Glass Bull's
Eye

This piece of window glass is from a
transitional layer of Pit 1. Like the edge piece described
previously, it is also from crown window glass. It is an
element known as the bull's eye, which is cut from the
center of the round, where an iron rod known as a pontil
was attached. The pontil was used to spin the bubble of
glass from the blowpipe out into the round. The bull's eye,
like the edge piece, is cullet as it is too rough and thick
to be leaded into a window frame.
