Eyewitnesses at James Fort

Zuniga Map Only a few contemporaneous descriptions of James Fort exist. The writings of George Percy, John Smith, William Strachey, and Ralph Hamor give historians a source on which to base their interpretations of the fort. In addition, there are two known visual representations of the original fort, both possibly made in 1608. One was drawn by Robert Tindall, listed as a gunner to Prince Henry; the other, displayed on the right, was sketched out by Pedro Zuniga, a Spanish Ambassador and spy. The beginning of the Jamestown Rediscovery project in 1994 represented the first chance for new information about the original fort and colonists in nearly 370 years. Come join us on our voyage of rediscovery as we uncover "The Buried Truth" of America's birthplace.
