Bulwark Ceramics

Delft Drug Jar A nearly complete, although broken Delft drug jar was found in the bottom of the bulwark trench. These drug jars, which are associated more with science and medicine than domestic use, are common in our earliest (pre-1615) contexts. This jar dates to the late 1500's. Sherds from numerous other vessels from the same time period were also found. With one exception this one was the most complete.

Border Ware Jug The one exception is the whole Border ware drinking jug also found in the bulwark trench. The Border ware jug is a very thin earthenware which has been roughly covered over the upper half with an olive green glaze. Despite the pouring spout opposite the handle, documentary evidence suggests this form is a drinking vessel for a single serving of beer or wine.
