Jamestown Rediscovery

Welcome to the official website of the Jamestown Rediscovery Archaeology Project at Jamestown Island, Virginia, the first permanent English colony in North America. Excavations began in 1994 with the hopes of finding some evidence of the 1607 Fort, for over two centuries thought lost to river shoreline erosion. Today, archaeologists have rediscovered much of the fortification and have recovered over a million artifacts that tell the true story of America's Birthplace. This website provides a link to the continuing excavations and to what has been found past and present. Please join us as we rediscover our past.

Jamestown Rediscovery is a program of Preservation Virginia at Historic Jamestowne.
